RUSSIAN DEMANDS ON ITALY’S FLEET ARE RENEWED
LONDON, October 7. The Soviet Foreign Minister (Mr Molotov), in a Note handed to the Italian Ambassador in Moscow, reminded Italy that under the peace treaty she should have surrendered part of her fleet to Russia by December 15, 1947, says the Moscow radio. The Note said that Russia had agreed to receive 33 ships without repairs, but the Italian Government had not turned over a single ship. The Note insisted that Italy take steps to carry out the provisions of the treaty. Reuter recalls that Britain and the United States waived their rights under the treaty provided the ships allocated to them were broken up. It is understood that the Italian Government held the view that Russia should have done the same.
