GIANT BRITISH AIRLINER MAY FLY NEXT YEAR
LONDON, October 7. Britain’s Brabazon 1, the world’s largest land-plane, is almost certain to make its first fight next year. This has been stated by an official of the Bristol Aeroplane Company, which is building this 130-ton aircraft. “The machine will probably not be brought out. of its flight shed for an engine test on the ground for another couple of months,” the official said. “Then there is the weather to consider. We are certainly not going to take the slightest risk. When the Brabazon takes the air the prestige of the whole British aircraft industry will fly with her.” The official said that certain parts, such as the windscreen, controls, undercarriages, tyres, and brakes had taken years to develop. Dozens of different types had had to be tried. Most of the 150 highly skilled technicians working on the machine are doing several hours overtime a week to hasten its completion.
