COBDEN ASSOCIATION TO DISCUSS FUNDS FOR CHILDREN’S PARK
After receiving advice from Wellington regarding grants for playing areas, the Cobden Ratepayers’ and Citizens’ Association, at a meeting this week, decided that the matter of raising funds for the children’s memorial park in Ward street be discussed at a fuller meeting of the association. A letter was received from Mr J. B. Kent, M.P., and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr W. E. Parry, stating that under the Physical Welfare Act grants were made available as a subsidy of £1 for £3, with a maximum of £5OO, for the provision of recreational facilities.
In reply to the association’s letter suggesting that residents should notify the Fire Brigade before lighting rubbish fires, the Greymouth Borough Council wrote stating that this was already the case and that residents were required to obtain permission from the council before such fires could be lit.
