The Wellington patient is a child of four years reported on Saturday. Also reported on Saturday was a child of six 'from Petone. The cases reported today were both from Lower Hutt — an infant of 13 months and a girl of three years. Asiatic Students Saying that he felt very strongly on the matter of scholarships to allow Asiatics to study in New Zealand, Mr R. A. Campbell, of Christchurch, asked the meeting of the Senate of the University of New Zealand whether the university colleges or Senate had been approached before the Government made its recent grant for that purpose. The Pro-Chancel-lor, Mr L. J. Wild, said that he could not speak for the colleges, but he understood that the Senate had been entitled to representation on the committee that drew up the conditions. Mr Campbell’s further remarks were taken in committee. The Senate adopted a resolution asking that further information on UNESCO fellowships be placed before it at its next meeting in January.— (P.A.) Technical Staff for Animal Research Some of the difficulties being experienced by the Department of Agriculture in obtaining technical staff for its Animal Research Division were outlined in a letter from the department read at a meeting of the Senate of the University of New Zealand. The department said that graduates appeared to have their interests developed in other directions during their post-graduate studies, and asked whether its animal research station might not be linked officially with university post-gradu-ate work. A member of the Canterbury Agricultural College Board of Governors (Mr W. Colee) said that there was adequate provision for work in animal research in the agricultural. colleges. Their facilities could be elaborated if necessary in collaboration with the department. The Pro-Chancellor, Mr L. J. Wild, said a letter had already been sent to the professorial boards of the colleges and of the School of Agriculture, and the Senate deferred further consideration of the matter until reports could be received from those bodies. —(P.A.)
