Mrs G. H. Jensen, of Hokitika, left yesterday for Christchurch, where she is to broadcast a 'cello recital over 3YA on Sunday afternoon. At last evening’s meeting of the West Coast Rugby League Board of Control votes of condolence were passed to Hie relatives of the late Messrs J. Walker and J. Williams. Mr A. E. Gibbons was elected chairman of the administrative committee of the Joint Coucil of the Order of St John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society yesterday in succession to Sir James Elliott. —(P.A.) Sir Clive Baillieu, the British industrialist and banker, and former president of the Federation of British industries, has left Britain on a business tour of Australia. New Zealand, and Malaya, according to The Times. —London, August 24. Mr W. D. P. Norris has been appointed Divisional Director of the General Post Office, and Mr W. G. Morgan, at present deputy-Chief Postmaster at Auckland, Chief Inspector, General Post Office—(P.A.)
At a special meeting of the Greymouth Technical High School’s Board of governors on Monday, the resignation of the registrar, Mrs T. Wilson, as from the end of the current term, was accepted. Mr P. A. Ongley, 8.A., M.Sc., of Lower Hutt. has been awarded a Coats Fellowship at. the Glascow University. Mr Ongley is a son of Mr R. C. Ongley. of Taihape. The fellowship is for cuo years’ research in chemistry or non-atomic physics. Mr Ongley was fcrmeily engaged on chemistry research at the Otago Medical School and left New Zealand last year for further studies at the Glasgow Uuniversity.— (P.A.)
