DEPUTATION LEAVES FOR WELLINGTON: WATER SUPPLY PLAN
To advocate the provision ol a major Grey Valley water supply scheme, instead of three new separate schemes for Blackball, Brunner, and Greymouth, a deputation left Greymouth for Wellington this morning, and later in the week will interview the Minister of Works, Mr R. Semple, and probably the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser. The deputation comprises the Mayor of Greymouth, Mr F. F. Boustridge, Cr H. Hutchin - son, the borough engineer, Mr A. J. Fairmaid, and the Deputy Mayor oi. Brunner, Mr A. R. Boustridge. A meeting of interested local bodies early in January voted for the major water scheme, and proposed that a deputation place the district s views before the Government, but a delay in obtaining the Government’s opinion on the proposition prevented this decision being carried out earlier. The water-supply scheme is to be placed before the Government by the deputation, is estimated to cost about £330,000, and has so far been opposed by the Minister ol Works on the ground that it would be uneconomic.
