FLOODS DAMAGE MANY BRIDGES IN BRITAIN

(Rec. 9 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 16. A Transport Ministry official said the latest survey of the flood damage indicated that at least 50 road bridges were damaged or down in south-east Scotland and 40 of them were impassable. Twelve of these bridges are of major importance, although none of them are on trunk roads. In the other cases the bridges are on minor roads and there are good alternative routes.
