GIANT BRITISH AIRLINER NOW UNDERGOING TEST
(Roc. 9.20 a.m.) LONDON, August 16
Britain's giant airliner, Brabazon I, left a Bristol hangar for the first time. It will remain on the tarmac for a week for fuel flow and consumption tests. Over 13,000 gallons of petrol will be pumped in and out of the 26 collapsible tanks. Technicians worked 90 minutes to move the Brabazon less than 100 yards with the aid of an American tank retriever.
The plane’s eight engines have been fitted, but it is without tail controls.
