APPEAL FOR HUNGRY AND DISTRESSED CHILDREN OF EUROPE

Preliminary arrangements for the United Nations’ world-wide appeal for the children of Europe, which is to be launched in May, are being made by Mr Peter Dawson, of the Now Zealand Broadcasting Service. Mr Dawson, who arrived in Greymouth today, has been appointed South Island organiser for the appeal and has been granted six months leave of absence from the service. “The campaign will be the biggest campaign ever launched in the world,’’" said Mr Dawson, in referring to the plan to afford relief to the millions of children in Europe, who are crying out for bread. “The appeal will be fool-proof. every penny uems accounted for by the United Nations, ’ added Mr Dawson. A campaign committee will be set up in Greymouth at a later date and there will be every opportunity during May for citizens to assist in the relief of children’s suffering.
