REEFTON SCHOOL OF MINES TO RECEIVE £100 FOR DIRECTOR’S SALARY
(0.C.) REEFTON, This Day. The council of Reef ton School of Mines at its meeting this week received advice from the Mines Department that a grant of £lOO had been made to the school as an addition to the salary of the school director. The president (Mr J. B. Auld) expressed satisfaction that the request of the council for the additional grant had been met. It was decided that a letter oi thanks be sent to the Minister of Mines for his favourable reply to the request. It was decided to send a letter ol sympathy to the relatives of the late Mr Sydney Fry, who was a former director of the school. The director, Mr W. J. Bolitho, reported that classes resumed in February at the four teaching centres, the ‘attendances on February 29 being: Reefton 20, Wallsend 7, Waiuta 3. Blackball 4. Thirty-one mineral determinations had been made for the month, comprising 16 bullion assays, one quartz sample, and 12 black sand samples. A parcel of base gold was also clea P? d - „ , , . ~ In comparison with 194/, stated the report, the classes showed an increased attendance at Reefton, thei e being more senior students, though one class was smaller. At Blackball the enrolment was also smaller. Nine distinct classes were being conducted at Reefton. The report was adopted. The director was granted leave of absence to visit Dunedin for the conference of officials of the mining industry in May. Mr J. B. Auld, president, presided at the meeting, there being present Messrs J Patterson. G. Richards, H. Miller. R. Alborn, F. W. Archer, C. Buist, C. Lawn, W. J. Bolitho (director) and R. Bartlett (secretary).
