GAOL FOR MAN WHO ‘GAVE HIMSELF UP’ TO GREY POLICE
A 34-year-old man who reported to the Greymouth police last evening that he was without money and had no place in which to live, was arrested, and this morning he appeared before Mr E. P. Stratford J.P., in the Police Court on a charge of being an idle and disorderly person in that he had insufficient lawful means of support. He was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment. The accused was Reuben Charles Woodford Darling, who, though he was in receipt of a monthly military pension, it was stated this morning, spent it on drink leaving nothing for his sustenance. Sentencing the accused to a week’s gaol, Mr Stratford said that he was being lenient, considering the accused’s long list.
