Broke Down Air Ace, who won the Victory Handicap on the first day of the Dunedin Jockey Club’s centennial meeting broke down just after crossing the line, and his racing days are probably over. In spite of being affected by stringhalt, the six-year-old Leighon gelding has been a most consistent performer and in 43 starts has a record of 9 wins and 17 minor placings. Substantial dividends have ■usually been associated with his successes and he has undoubtedly proved a profitable horse to his owner, Mr J. P. O’Brien. Air zXce figured in the fields for .the Wellington autumn meeting; and if all had. gone well he might have proved a formidable contender for the Thompson Handicap.
