Greymouth Milk Supply

Sir, —Under pressure by the Milk Marketing Department, some, not all, of the milk producers have signed up to form an association. The reason is that they may receive the bait of an extra one penny half penny per gallon which the Government has offered them. The Government move is, first, to banish all private vendors. Thus with the association working, the Government will take over the Riversdale Dairy Co. At present the Government is part owner. Will this give the Greymouth people more milk, better milk, or milk at less cost, or can the Government sell at the same rate as private vendors? The private vendors have a margin of 9d per gallon to run their business. The Riversdale Dairy Co, with Government control, has Is 9d per gallon. There .is only one way to run, a successful business if we want service and quality and that is by private ownership. Under the Milk Marketing Department, Greymouth milk supply will not be of the same high quality as it is today. When we have pasteurised milk, as a few cranks cried out for, then the quality of milk has gone. The reason is that all milk, good, bad and indifferent, is mixed up, stirred up and dished up. Housewives, if you want to buiiu up strong healthy children, then use fresh raw milk —the milk that has built up nations. Have your say on what you shall Greymouth, February 23.
