PREMIER REMODELS CABINET: NEW ITALIAN MINISTERS
LONDON, December 14. “The Italian Prime Minister (Mr Alcide de Gasperi) has remodelled his Cabinet, reinforcing the Government by including Republicans and moderate Socialists,” says the Rome correspondent of the Daily Telegraph. © “Mr Pacciardi, the Republican leader, and Mr Saragat, leader of the Right-wing Socialists, become joint Deputy-Prime Ministers. Mr Pacciardi will preside over a new public order committee of Ministers. “Other new Ministers are: Industry and Commerce, Mr Tremellini (Right-wing Socialist); Defence, Mr Facchinetti (Republican); Post and Telegraph, Mr Recona (Socialist), Minister without portfolio, Mr Togni (Christian Democrat). Mr Togni was formerly Minister of Industry and Commerce. “Count Sforza, who hitherto has sat in the Cabinet as an independent ‘expert,’ now resumes his Repuolican Party label. “The inclusion of the two additional groups gives the Government a slightly Left-wing turn. The main significance is that it' gives Mr d Gasperi three-party responsibility for conducting elections in March, and for any measure which may be taken to preserve order before then.
