HOPELESS POSITION FOR GOVERNMENT ARMY IN MANCHURIA
(Rec. 11.10 a.m.) NANKING, October 24. The opinions of foreign military observers in Nanking today are unanimous that the military situation for the Government
forces in Manchuria is practi-
cally hopeless. All confirm the pessimistic feeling prevailing in Government and military circles here. “The chaotic dislocation of communications in Manchuria is the deciding factor,” said one observer. Speaking of the American military aid granted to China to date, he' described it as “junk,” which had been rotting in the Pacific islands before passing to China. Another observer said he felt that further American, aid to China was inevitable,' but that it could not save the critical situation in Manchuria, which is deteriorating daily.
“The Government forces are powerless to stem the Communist onslaught, which appears to>be an allout offensive to take Manchuria before the winter sets in,” he said.
