Mr R. J. Ware To Be Labour Party’s Westland Candidate
According to advice received by the secretary of the Westland Labour Representation Committee, Mr J. E. Laing,, the national executive of the New Zealand Labour Party has confirmed the selection of Mr R. J. Ware, a Post Office employee, of Greymouth, as the Labour Party’s official candidate in the forthcoming Westland by-election. Mr Ware is president of the Greymouth branch of the Labour Party of which he has been a member since
1938, and for the past two years has been a delegate to the Westland Labour Representation Committee of which he is now vice-president. Mr Ware is also district organiser. for the Greymouth National Savings Committee.
» Born in Taihape 38 years ago, Mr Ware came to the West Coast as a boy and with his parents took up residence at Ngahere. He was educated at the Ngahere School and completed his secondary education at the Greymouth Technical High School. Joining the staff of the Post and Telegraph Office as a cadet at Blackball in 1924, Mr Ware was transferred to Greymouth in 1931, and 1 has since been stationed-here. He is a member ; of the staff of the money order ana savings bank branch. He has served as president of the Post and Telegraph Employees’ Association and Officers’ Guild, of which he is delegate to the national body. Mr Ware has played Rugby League football for the Blackball Club, and has also been a member of the United Rugby football club. He is a married man with, a family of four children. It is expected that the National Party’s candidate will be announced next Wednesday.
