PETROL TAX MAKES N.Z. PRICE HIGHEST IN WORLD
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Because of the present rate of the petrol tax the price of petrol in New Zealand is the highest in the world, according to the annual report of the Wellington Automobile Association.
Claiming that the present tax is unfair to motorists ,as a class, the report says that South Africa reduced its tax from Hid to 8d a gallon, while Australia- had made an interim reduction of Id a gallon.
The tax payments by New Zealand motorists are: Five gallons, 6s 2d; six gallons, 7s 4d; seven gallons, 8s 7d; 10 gallons, 12s 3d; 12 gallons 14s Bd.
