LATE NEWS Anglo-American Tariff Pact Expected Soon

At his final press conference before his retirement as Under-secretary of State for Economic Affairs, Mr Clayton, announced that an AngloAmerican tariff agreement would be concluded within a few days. “The agreement includes - some elimination o£ Empire preferences and some substantial reductions in preferences all along the line—not only those Britain enjoys in the Dominions but those the Dominions enjoy in the United Kingdom,” he said. “In Britain’s present critical situation, we are unlikely to get as substantial an elimination of those preferences as we had hoped for, or as we would have been able to get under better conditions.”
Nevertheless, Mi- Clayton said, he was generally', satisfied with the terms now being worked out at Geneva. Australian Jockey Rides Cesarewitch Winner (Rec. 3.5 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 15.
