(Rec. 12.30 p.m.) CANBERRA, This, Day.
The Government has rejected an inquiry on Communism in Australia. The Prime Minister, Mr Chifley, stated that the evidence did not warrant the appointment of a Royal Commission on Communist activities. (The Minister for Labour, Mr- Holloway, said the Attorney-General would consider the Opposition demands for a Royal Commission ■on Communism). Mr Chifley said: “The security service of the Attorney-General’s Department keeps under close observation all those who might be guilty of subversive activities —not only Communists, but others also.”
