SHARP PROTEST BY SYNOD
(P.A.) NAPIER, This Day. The abrupt termination of a broadcast address by the Primate, Archbishop West-Wat-son, at St Matthew’s Church, Hastings, recently, drew a sharp protest at today’s session of the Waiapu Diocesan Synod. “This is a dishonor to God,” said the Rev. K. F. Button, on whose motion it was decided to urge the authorities to extend religious service broadcasts 15 minutes past the hour instead of five as at present. “I believe,” said Mr Button, “that most Church of England clergy would not need, the extra time except, perhaps, on very special occasions, but it is hardly edifying for clergy and choir to rush through the service with one eye on the clock.” Dean O. S. O. Gibson contended that the atmosphere which was being created by the church broadcast was often destroyed in a few moments by the next broadcast, consisting of swing music or a mystery play of the thriller type.
