Prompt Action Saves Life Of Infant
(P.A.) BLENHEIM, This Day. Prompt action by a neighbour’’saved the life of the infant daughter of Mr and Mrs D. H. McFedries, when their home iri Howick road, Blenheim, was partly gutted by fire last night. A neighbour, Frank Moreland, saw smoke emerging frdm the house and rushed to'.give assistance. He was informed that the baby was sleeping in the front of the house, but smoke and flames prevented him from reaching the room by the passage and he had to run out through the back and gain access through french doors. The room was well alight and the baby’s : crib was actually‘smouldering when Mr Moreland broke in. The baby suffered severe burns and Mr Moreland was also slightly burned by falling paper and scrim. Had the rescue been delayed any -longer it would have been, impossible to have entered the room. The cause of the fire is unknown. Mrs McFedries, who was in the kitchen, was unaware that the 'front of the house was ablaze.
Mr McFedries, who is secretary of the Marlborough Rugby Union, will be a heavy loser.
