Challenge Accepted
The challenge of the Mayor of Hokitika (Mr A. R. Elcock) to a wheelbarrow race in Weld street, Hokitika, tonight, has been accepted by the Westland County Council chairman (Mi* M. Wallace). The contestants will-have as passengers in their barrows, the two- district candidates in the “Miss Westland” campaign which is' being conducted with a view to sending food to Britain.
Hospital Alterations Plans for considerable alterations at'the,-Buller Hospital to provide for sterilising rooms, patients’ conveniences,- • smaller wards and. offices for the. Matron and Sisters, also a theatre block,were mentioned in a report to the;Buller Hospital' Board this week. These- improvements are intended to apply to both the present men’s and women’syzards, which it is proposed should be altered, to. provide for two single .and one two-bed, wards in the
former section and three single and one two-bed wards in the women’s section. ; . - ;..
