BURSARY SYSTEM FOR POST-PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The new system of bursaries for those intending to become postprimary school teachers was mentioned. by the Minister of Education, Mr Mason, addressing the Technical Education Association conference in Wellington yesterday. Sixth form pupils who passed the University Entrance or some higher examination might be given financial assistance during their university courses, he said. On completion of that course the bursars would spend a year at a training college. They would be paid £7O yearly and £4O extra, if they had to live away from home. Forty such bursars would be selected shortly. A scheme for training commercial teachers would begin at the Wellington Technical College next year, said the .Minister. Twenty trainees would be selected from among young people who had useful experience in accountancy or business offices.
