SELECTING NEW SITE FOR POLICE STATION
Support for the view that the selection of a property occupied by a longestablished business, and another which was the prospective location of a garage, as a site for Greymouth’s proposed new police station, is contained in a letter received by the Westland Progress League from the Minister of Transport, Mr O’Brien. “It has been brought to my notice that there is local controversy as to the most suitable site for the new police station,” said the Minister, “and I am informed that the department proposes to acquire the properties owned by Messrs Grogan Bros and Bergamini and Cowan Ltd. ■I agree with the League that there are other sites as suitable in Greymouth, if not more suitable, than the properties mentioned which would not interfere with any businesses m the town. I have taken up the matter with the Commissioner of Police and the Works Department with a view to seeing if some other site can be found.” ~,,••+• Mr A. G. Osborne, for the Mmistei-in-Charge of the Police Department, advised that he was enquiring into the points raised by the league.
