MR NASH AND TEA

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. "We people in New Zealand do not want tea at 4s 2d a lb, if it means that other people have to work for Is a day to produce it.” This statement was made by the Minister of Finance, Mr Nash, addressing the Wellington branch of the United Nations Association last night. Continuing, he said, that in all probability tea would now cost 6s 2d a lb. Against that a friend had told him it was costing 12s a lb in Switzerland. “Labourers on tea plantations were getting one shilling a day,” added Mr Nash. “Today they are getting five shillings a day.”
