BOXING JACKIE PATERSON DEPRIVED OF TITLES
(Rec. 10.0 a.m.) LONDON. July 30. The British Boxing Board of Control has deprived Jackie Paterson of his world,-British and Empire flyweight titles. Paterson on July 16 collapsed before weighing in for a title bout with Dado Marino, which was cancelled. The British Boxing Board said the administrative stewards, after hearing the doctors’ and inspectors’ report, unanimously concluded that there was nothing in Paterson’s physical condition to prevent him from presenting himself at the weighing in at Glasgow on July 16. Paterson had tears in his eyes when he came from the board room today. “I am inclined to finish with boxing altogether, but have not decided,” he said. “I was really sick on July 16.”
The stewards staled that in the event of a contest being arranged between Marino and Rinty Monaghan, they will recognise it as being for the flyweight championship of the world.
