REEFTON PROGRESS OF HOUSING PROJECTS IN TOWN AND DISTRICT
(0.C.) REEFTON, This Day. Further house-building work is in progress in Munson street, a third house has the frame work up and the remaining two in this block, all State houses, are nearing completion. In Church street the houses are also well under way, and a private house in Main street has been commenced. The housing project for miners on Crampton road now has 10 hutments in various stages of building from foundations to the completion of roofing. The houses being built on the Buller road for Public Works Department employees are also well in hand. Twelve houses and a number of hutments are being built,- on this same area. All -carpenters in the Reefton district have full schedules of work for many months. More, tradesmen could be employed if they were available. COAL OUTPUT DOWN The output from Reefton district cohl mines for the week ended July 19 was 2280 tons, a slight reduction on the previous week’s figures, - but the inclusion of a ppy Saturday holiday in the week accounted for the reduction, which was only 63 tons. FUNERAL The funeral of Mr Jack Banks took place at Reefton yesterday and was one of the largest seen in Reefton for many years. There were over 70 motor vehicles in the procession, which was led by the fire engine. Members of the Reefton Fire Brigade formed a guard of honour, and among others present were representatives of the staff of the Inangahua Hospital, coal mme union members, representatives'of the Inangahua County Council and the Inangahua Hospital board, coal and gold mining interests and sporting bodies; The funeral services at the residence and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. C. R. Sprackett,. assisted by the Rev. F. Trim, of Wesley Church. The pall bearers were fire brigade officers and members of Banks and party's mine staff. PERSONAL Mr and Mrs C. J. Willis (Christchurch) are visiting Reefton. incipient fire When the funnel of a boiler at McElwce and Sons’ butchery at Reefton became red hot this afternoon, the roofing joists over the boiler were set alight. The fire alarm was sounded but quick work by shop employees subdued the fire before any damage was caused, and the firemen’s services were not required.
