APPOINTMENTS MADE TO N.Z. CIVIL AVIATION POSTS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 11. Mr I. A. Scott, of Lower Hutt, has been appointed deputy-director of the civil aviation branch of the Air Department. This information was received today from the Public Service Commission, which also gave details of several other appointments to the branch. They include: superintendent of flying control, Mr L. F. P. Taylor, of Wellington; chief aeronautical engineer, Mr W. S. Joyner, principal communications officer, Mr D. F. Jenkins, and chief airways Mr H. N. J. Trustrum. . J . Mr Scott was originally appointed to the position of controller of airways, but before he took this office he was made deputy-director. No, appointment of controller of airways will be made in the meantime. Mr Scott has had many years’ flying, technical, and administration experience. He has flown 40 different types of aircraft, and served in the Air Force in many parts of the world. He is a qualified commercial pilot, has a first-class navigation licence, and was the first New Zealandef to qualify for a captain’s instrument rating. Mr Taylor has 5000 flying hours to his credit. In July, 1941, he was appointed senior operations officer in the civil aviation branch, and in the same year was posted to Fiji as commanding officer of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Works Squadron, which was responsible for the survey and construction of airstrips in Fiji and the Ellice Islands. He organised the ferrying of United States military aircraft to Australia.
