THE WEATHER Forecast: Scattered Rain

The following weather forecast was issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, at noon to-day:— Situation: A ridge of high pressure is over the North Island; depressions are in the North Tasman Sea; a cold front is moving on to the South Island. Further outlook: Unsettled with further rain likely, especially in North Westland and Buller. LOCAL RECORDINGS 9 a.m.—Barometer, 30.00 inches (1016 millibars); thermometer, 61; wind, south-west (light breeze); sky, cloudy; bar, considerable swell; rainfall, nil. (The total rainfall to date this year is 9.59 inches.) The depth on the bar at high water yesterday was 19ft lin.
