BLAKETOWN SCHOOL BATHS TO BE OPEN ON SATURDAYS
The swimming baths at the Blaketown school will be opened on Saturday afternoons to all primary school children in the suburb, according to a decision reached by the Blaketown Home and School Association. The new public session, which commenced last Saturday, will be conducted as an experiment. The committee of the association decided that the annual fancy dress ball be conducted on Friday, April 18. Acting on the suggestion of the headmaster, Mr E. R. Darracott, the committee decided to erect posts and mark out a football ground on the school playing area. On exhibit was the presentation gift of a lady’s handbag to be forwarded to Miss Traue, a recent member of the staff, who has now taken up duties in a school near Gisborne. The next meeting, it was decided, would take the form of a social evening, and a programme, including an educational talk of interest to those having pupils at the school. The secretary, Mr. P. J- YlcEnaney, presented the balance-sheet of a successful picnic held recently at the Omoto racecourse. A pleasing feature, it was mentioned, was the attendance of a larger number ol parents than had been customai y. Lindley, 0; extras, 5; total, 39.
