OPERA HOUSE. —To-night! “Canyon Passage,” starring Dana Andrews and Susan Hayward. Filmed for the most part in the magnificent scenic regions of Oregon, “Canyon Passage,” showing at the Opera House to-night, co-stars Dana Andrews, Brian Donlevy, and Susan Hayward. It also features in its cast such prominent cinema favourites as Patricia Roc, Hoagy Carmichael, Ward Bond, and Andy Devine. It tells the absorbing story of the pioneer men and women who, despite Indian uprisings and the dangers of the Oregon Trail, trekked across the Continent and through “canyon passage” to settle the Pacific North-west. It is the chronicle of Logan Stewart, his best friend, and thcT woman they both loved. Musical highlight of the picture is Hoagy Carmichael's singing of “Ole Buttermilk Sky,” “Rogue River Valley,-’ “I’m Gettin’ Married in the Morninand “Silver Saddle.” REGENT THEATRE.—To-night: “Devotion,” starring Ida Lupino, Paul Henreid, Olivia de Havilland, and Sydney Greenstreet. Starring four of to-day’s brightest film stars. Ida Lupino, Paul-Henreid, Olivia de Havilland, and Sydney Greenstreet, “Devotion” is a moving drama about two sisters who love the same man. How the sisters’ love for each. other is split asunder by their discovery of a new and greater love; how fame and fortune arrive at long last, only to be followed by heartbreak and disillusion; and how, despite their inordinate brilliance, it is heart, not head, that dictates the final solution to their pressing problem. makes “Devotion” an exciting . and absorbing film combination of drama and authenticity. The film boasts an important supporting cast that includes Nancy Coleman, Arthur Kennedy, Dame May Whitty, and Victor Francen. The supporting programme includes an interesting March of Time, entitled “Wanted, More Homes,” plus a special scenic technicolour short, “America the Beautiful.”
