R.A.F. COMMISSIONS
APPLICANTS FROM NEW ZEALAND PROGRESS OF SELECTION (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Information has been received from London by the Air Department, that the Permanent Commission Selection Board has completed its task of examining all applications. The notifications to all the successful candidates will have been despatched by February 28, and those condidates not notified may assume that they have not been selected for permanent commissions, although they will remain eligible for selection for extended service engagements in the R.A.F. No further applications for permanent commissions in the R.A.F. are admissable. All applications by New Zealand flying personnel for extended sendee engagements in the R.A.F., whether submitted in New Zealand or “overseas,” including unsuccessful applications for permanent commissions, will be dealt with by the Selection Board now silting in New Zealand This board is “processing” a large number of applications and already has interviewed over 100 candidates. Some have been notified of the result of their applications and the Air Department is despatching individual letters as quickly as possible. No information is available as to probable embarkation dates of the successful candidates. The Air Ministry has further advised that, after allowing for the permanent commissions which must be reserved for entrants through the R.A.F. college and universities, a substantial number of vacancies for permanent commissions will be available during the next few years for award to officers and airmen serving on extended service engagements.
