ATHLETICS Borland Sets High Jump Record
A. feature of the athletic sports meeting held at Waimate yesterday was J. H. Borland’s performance in beating by half an inch the previous best performance by a New Zealandex’ in the high. jump. Borland cleared 6ft. l§in. A crowd of between 3000 and 4000 watched the sports held in brilliant sunshine with a light breeze. Al Hershey put the shot 52ft oi?in and threw the discus 146 ft 0;?in. In the 100yds Short Limit Handicap. Campbell equalled the New Zealand record, 9 4-ssec, but the record was disallowed because of a following wind. In the 220yds, Campbell recorded one-fifth of a" second outside the New Zealand record, 21 3-ssec.
