PERMIT DEFERRED
BUILDING OF HOKITIKA. POST OFFICE The Building Controller has deferred the issue of a permit for the building of a new post office at Hokitika, but strong representations to secure the permit are being made b.y the department. Advice to this effect was contained in a telegram received to-day by Mr. W. D. Taylor, president of the Westland District Progress League, from the Post-master-General, Mr. F. Hackett. The league, at its meeting last week, decided to send a telegram to the Postmaster-General asking for more information on the progress made towards the building of the new post office and to-day’s telegram was in reply to this question. Mr. Hackett’s telegram was as follows:—“Reference your telegram about new post office for Hokitika. (1) Plans and specifications should be completed in about six weeks; (2) a sufficiently complete set of floor plans and elevations will be made available shortly for viewing by the league; (3) the Building Controller has deferred the issue of a permit on account of the serious shortage of building supplies but strong representations are being made and immediately approval is secured and the plans and specifications are complete, tenders will be invited.”
