OUTSTANDING BLOOMS

SOUTH ISLAND GLADIOLUS SHOW DISPLAY Outstanding . blooms were on Town Hall to-day when for the exhibition in the Greymouth first time in the province’s history, the National Gladiolus Show for the South Island was conducted on the West Coast. The judge, Mr. A. Soanes, of Christchurch, was warm in his praise of the display this afternoon, and he stated that the premier bloom, an “G. G. Aerry,” exhibited by Mr. V. Stewart (Christchurch) was the best he had ever seen staged in New Zealand. “It is an outstanding spike for length: fluorescence and placement,” he said, adding that the six bloms exhibited by Mr. Stewart were of a high standard. The following are the principal awards made this afternoon: — Premier bloom in the open class and champion bloom of the show. — Mr. V. Stewart’s “G. G. Aerry,” Premier bloom in amateur section. —Mrs. C. Lew (Christchurch). Novice champion.—Mr. McGeorge, “G. G.s,Aerry.” Premier large flowers.—Open: Mr. Stewart’s “G. G. Aerry.” Amateur: Mrs. P. Lecky. Premier decorative. —Open: Mr. V. Stewart (Christchurch). Amateur: Mr. McGeorge, who also exhibited the premier decorative bloom in the show. In the amateur section three blooms exhibited by, the Rev. E. O. Harding were outstanding and first in their class.
