SPORTING BRIGHT PROSPECTS FOR CIRCUIT

Horses Nominated From North ! Island Accommodation is severely taxed at Greymoutli stables for the forthcoming West Coast circuit, which will open with the Kumara Racing Club’s annual meeting at Omoto on Saturday, and provided the present dry spell continues district clubs should experience successful meetings. Horses have been nominated from, as far afield as Wellington, Mannkau and Wingatui, and with the contingent from Canterbury larger than usual, added to the horses trained on the West Coast, good fields should be guaranteed.

Among those nominated for the Kumara meeting are Master Baron 'and Royal Baron, both of which are trained by E. Adams at Trentham, Cornish Note, trained by the former successful hurdle horseman, L. C. Brown, at Lower Hutt, Sunniray (T. E. Panckhurst, Wingatui), and Smock (E. Andrews, Washdyke). These visitors will also be on hand for the remainder of the circuit. Horses at Omoto. Interest is quickening in the track work at Omoto in view of the circuit, and about 20 horses are in regular work there, including M. Conza’s string of seven (Racelad, Home Again, Sitology, Glamis Pal, St. Nat, Triplicity and Vonettoe), C, J. Walsh’s six (Young John, Dinki Di, John o’ London, Royal Tor, Chellow Dene and Liquidate), W. McKendry (Atreus), A. Leckie (Great Legend and Sir Sabre), J. T. Leonard (Highland Dance), F. Escott (Bannockburn and Rene Leighon) and M. Daly (Belfort). ° Interesting Visitors. Royal Baron, who is among the visitors from Trentham, is a three-year-old bay colt by St. Boswells (sire of Da Vinci) from Lady Baron, and in 13 starts this season has been thrqp times second, once third and once fourth. In his last start, at the Ashhurst meeting last month, he wasi beaten into second place over five' furlongs and a half by Ella Shields,

■only in the last stride. He should pay expanses on the trip. His stable-mate, Master Baron, has also been in the money this season, including a second over seven furlongs to Colopier at the Masterton meeting last month, and he also should pick up some stake money. Cornish Note is an aged gelding by Inflation from Cornish Belle, and this season has had five starts without getting, a place. He showed speed at the recent Wellington meeting, however, and no doubt his connections expect him to break his maiden status on the West Coast circuit. Riccarton Winner. Palomino, a three-year-old filly by Solicitor General—Charmeuse, which recently won two races at Riccarton, will be raced on the West Coast circuit. She has been nominated for the two open races on the Kumara Club’s card for Saturday, and if she parades there will be plenty of support for her. She won so well at the December meeting at Riccarton, once over nin furlongs when she finished brilliantly from the back, and the second time over seven furlongs, that big things have been predicted for her. On* these performances she must have a chance in the company in which she will race on the West Coast. The filly is trained by R. Wilson at Riccarton for her Greymouth owner, Mrs. J. Freitas.
