YACHTING Auckland Leads In Idle Along Series
Auckland won the first race in the Idle Along contest held at Lyttelton yesterday afternoon after a wellsailed race under good yachting conditions., The northern boat did not have all its own way—the first.two rounds saw it closely challenged by Wellington, Bay of Plenty, and Nelson. In the last round Auckland drew away to win comfortably by lmin 24sec. The boats were sent away at 2.30 p.m. The finish was:—Auckland, Carolyn II (F. J. Dickenson), 4.45.19 pm., ”1: Wellington, Belvedere (A. W. Johnson), 4.46.43, 2; Bay of Plenty, Rose Marie (F. Mackrel), 4.47.14. 3: Nelson, Ripple (P. Milne), 4.47.44,4; Marlborough, Nautilus (C. Flood), 4.48.55; Wanganui, Airflo (R. Buller), 4.49.58; Canterbury, Nada (L. Kerr), 4.50.39; Hawke’s Bay. Typhoon (T. Husband), 4.51.45; Westland, lona (E. Smith), 4.54.55; Otago, Koneke (T. R. Davis), 4.56.55. The challenge from Manakau was disallowed by the conference on the grounds that it was not a separate provincial district. Manakau was allowed to compete in last year’s contest. but it was explained that it had been decided to tighten up the conditions at this year’s contest.
