The Russian Military Administration announced that the census on October 30 revealed that the popula-' tion of the Russian zone which was about 1,100,000 last year is now 17,330,000. Females outnumbered males by 2,500,000. —Berlin, Dec. 4. Queensland Tobacco Case. The Queensland Minister of Health and Home Affairs, Thomas - Andrew Foley, was to-day found not guilty of having in his possession manufactured tobacco on which excise< had not been paid. A relative earlier had been prosecuted on a similar charge. —Brisbane, December 5. Byrd’s Transport Planes. The D.C.3 transport planes, .which - will take off from the. aircraft-car-rier Philippine Sea when the Byrd expedition begins its work in the Antarctic, will not be re-embarked, but may either fly to New Zealand, if the weather is suitable, or be abandoned in Little America.—Washington, December 4. Middle East Headquarters. T . - An R.A.F. spokesman said the evacuation of the Middle East-bead-quarters from Cairo to the Suez Canal zone has been virtually completed.
