BEVIN AS TARGET
POLITICAL HOSTILITY IN NEW YORK NEW YORK, December 2. The British Foreign Minister, Mr Ernest Bevin, was the target for what the New York Times describes as a minor hostile political demonstration, when, seeking relaxation from the strain of four consecutive weeks of meetings of the Foreign Ministers’ Council, he attended a professional football game at the polo grounds. Loud booing mixed with some applause began at half-time when an announcement was made over the loud-speaker system that Mr Bevin was present. The demonstration subsided when play was resumed but again broke out when shortly before the end of the match, Mr Bevin, escorted by uniformed police, began to leave. It, increased, in volume as Mr Bevin neared the open stands and did not end until he left the grounds. Some members of Mr Bevin’s party were inclined to associate the demonstration with the Palestine question.
