Their Excellencies, Sir Bernard and Lady Freyberg, to-day fulfilled official engagements at Kumara and Hokitika. They will leave Ic-mor-row morning for Westport.

Ministerial.

The Minister of Transport and Marine (Mr. O’Brien) left Greymouth for Wellington by special plane this afternoon. He was accompanied by his secretary, Miss C. Moore.

Messrs F. J. Beer and L. A. Butter-

field, stipendiary stewards, New Zealand Trotting Conference, left last evening on return to Christchurch. Mr. E. C. Rooney., of Hokitika, left last evening on transfer to the position of supervisor, Post and Telegraph Department, Otautau. Mr. C. K. Morel, of Greymouth,

has been appointed to the staff of

the Department of Internal Affairs, as custodian of Government departments at Greymouth. Dr. K. R. Brokenshire has resigned the position of medical officer to the Waiuta Medical Association and will leave shortly for Dunedin. Dr. Brokenshire has been at Waiuta for 14 years. His successor has not yet been appointed. Mr. E. D. Orr, stationmaster at Greymouth, will leave on Friday on transfer to the position of goods agent at Dunedin. No successor has been appointed to date, and Mr.' W. H. Preston, train running officer, will be acting stationmaster. Mr. C. F. Shapcott, inspector and personnel officer, National Employment Service, Wellington, who has been on a visit to the Grey district, left last evening for Christchurch. Mr. Shapcott was formerly in charge of the National Service Department’s

office at Greymouth. Mr H. P. Stephens, of Christchurch, district supervisor of the State Housing Department, arrived this morning on a visit to Greymouth. He is accompanied by Mr F. Cunliffe, stores officer, Christchurch, and Mr Priestly, of the Wellington office. The. visitors will leave this evening on return to .Christchurch, Mr A*. E. Wogan, of the Lands and Survey Department, Christchurch, yesterday commenced duty at the Hokitika office. Mr Wogan, who formerly resided at Hokitika, wj.ll succeed Mr A. Chesney (who will retire at the end of the year) as chief clerk, receiver of land revenue, and deputy registrar. Guests at the Albion Hotel include Messrs A. Blackett, F. R. Lloyd, A. Mclntosh, R. P. Powell (Welling- ■_ ton), T. A. Haynes, Mr. and Mrs. Pannell'(Christchurch), Mr. and Mrs E. Morrison (Dunedin), Mr. and Mrs. G. Ellis (Timaru), Mr. and Mrs. Downard (Te Kuiti), Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Miller (Prebbleton), Mr. and Mrs. Graham (Invercargill).
