WAR BRIDE ROBBED
HANDBAG STOLEN IN AUCKLAND (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Nov. 1. Four hours after the Monterey ar-’ rived from Sydney this morning, a passenger was robbed of her handbag containing money and traveller’s cheques to the value of about 500 dollars while she was shopping in a Queen street department store. She was Mrs. O. M. Whitney, an Australian war bride, who was on her way to the United States with her young son. The shop was crowded. Among the contents of her purse were £75 worth of American dollar bills, £75 in traveller’s cheques, and £25 in Australian currency. There was also a boat ticket from Sydney to San Francisco for herself and her son. , The purse and contents had not been recovered by 5 p.m. when Mrs. Whitney resumed her voyage on the Monterey. Representatives of the shipping' company said the ticket which she had in her purse was only, a carbon copy of the original taken from her when she boarded, the vessel. It was for use as an' identity check during the voyage and its loss would not cause her any serious inconvenience.
