BOXING Murphy Offered Big Purse at Timaru
A substantial purse had been offered to Bos Murphy, welter-weight boxing champion of New Zealand, as an inducement for him to fight Cliff Hanham at Timaru, and Murphy’s manager had said he would consider the offer, said the president of the South Canterbury Boxing Association (Mr. M. P. McKenna) last’week. Fie added that Hanham was the type of fighter who would provide firstclass opposition to Murphy, and enable supporters in Timaru to make their own assessment of Murphy’s worth.
