Aggregate Stakes Record
Trentham Winnings This
Season
Although Trentham had few representatives in the field last Saturday, the success of The Monarch at Woodville brought the centre’s stakes aggregate for the current season to over £43,000, the best ever. Naturally, the big prize-money now being offered by clubs has played no small part to that end. In the 1938-39 season; when Beaulilvre, Peerless, Siegmund, Arctic King', Trebor, and Beau Vite, were big winners, Trentham set a record by winning £25,065. This aggregate was eclipsed two years later with £25,398, but included in the total was Beau Vite’s £13,930, the major portion of it in Australia. Trentham was again rich in big winners in the 1943-44 season, and Tara King, Master Dash, Voltaire, Bridge Acre, and Kindergarten (who was then quartered at Trentham) helped to carry the season’s figures to £25,432. Now this record has been eclipsed. During the current season 47 horses have won 90 races for Trentham, and another 30 have run into places—96 seconds, 75 thirds, and 23 fourths (where a stake has been attached to the placing). Fremont.
The -American pacer Fremont, recently purchased by Mr. H. C. Bishop, 'of Adelaide, from F. Wallis, Gore, nearly died this week at Christchurch. The horse showed symptoms of sickness and a veterinary was in attendance all one night. At one period it was thought the horse would not live, but on Tuesday morning he began to respond to continuous treatment.
