CHINESE EXPELLED
MENACE TO PUBLIC GOOD IN SINGAPORE
10.40 a.m.) LONDON, Ap. 17. Ten Chinese have been expelled from Singapore under .the civil law of the colony, on the ground that their expulsion will be conducive to the public good, said the Secretary for the Colonies (Mr Hall), in the House of Commons.
They had previously been detained by the military administration, he said, after attempting defiance of a police instruction not to organise a demonstration on February 15, which would have been prejudicial to law and order. These men were in no sense genuine labour leaders, and their disruptive activities were making impossible the organisation of trade unions on sound, democratic lines, which was now being undertaken by an experienced trade union officer from Britain.
