AUCKLAND Kindroon a Likely Favourite

Fancied Candidates for Ellerslie

Twenty-nine high class handicappers will. face the barrier in the £3OOO Easter . Handicap at the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting at Ellerslie on Saturday, and speculation will probably be well distributed. Heading the list is Sleepy Fox, a brilliant sprinter at his. best and winner of the last two Easter. Handicaps on the course, in. 19.4,4 with 8.0 and last year with 9.5. He has 10.2 on Saturday, and will be set a stiff task. He has no New Zealand form recently, his latest racing having been done in Australia.

Among the more fancied candidates are Balgowan, a winner at his last two starts, Kindroon, who has also won his last two races, both over sprint distances, Representative, a winner at his last start, but better known as a stayer, Sweet Biscuit, a brilliant sprinter, Verdant, a winner at his last outing, Balmacara, previously successful at a mile, Hot Pursuit, Imperial, who has a fine record this season, and Laddie Boy. These are only a few of the better-per-formed horses in a splendid field, and the winner does not always come from those with recent good form. The final summing up may be in favour of Kindroon, Imperial, Balgowan and Cambria. Win and place betting will be used, and the following horses should race prominently in their respective engagements:— President’s Handicap, Conspiracy, Western Front, Cowper. Great Northern Oaks: Lady Foxbridge, Swingalong, White Blaze. Brighton Hurdles: Brantome, Mynet, Lucky Alex. Easter Handicap: Kindroon', Imperial, Balgowan.
