(Recd. 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Mar 20. The Combined Universities’ byelection resulted: —

H. G. Strauss (Conservative) 5483 L. Stocks (Independent) 5124 Sir Ernest Simon (Independent) 4028.. S. Wormaid (Independent Lab.) 3414 Air Commodore G. S. Oddie (British People’s Party) 239 This is the first Conservative gain since the general elections. Mr. Strauss was member for Norwich from 1935 to 1945. The election resulted from the death of Dr. Eleanor Rathbone.
