WAR BRIDES SAILING

LARGE PARTY ON ATHLONE CASTLE 150 FOR NEW ZEALAND (Rec. noon) LONDON, March 21. The largest contingent of brides yet to depart in one ship boarded the Athlone Castle at Southampton today. They comprised more than 300 Australian servicemen’s brides with about 100 children and about 150 New Zealand servicemen’s wives with 50 children. The Athlone Castle will sail to-morrow. Both New Zealand and Australia had a number of officals at Southampton to deal with any last-minute problem. The New Zealand authorities tried to assist tired and struggling mothers through the embarkation preliminaries, but most of the wives had to push for places in the queue, attempt to control their children, drag baggage and look after their papers unassisted.
