‘AMBULANCE’ HALTED
POLICE FIRE FROM ROAD AMBUSH SEQUEL TO FOUR HOLD-UPS (Rec. 10.25 a.m.) LONDON, Mar. 20. Police from a road ambush fired on an American army ambulance which failed to stop when signalled near Berwick-on-Tweed last night, says the Press Association. The vehicle came ,to a standstill with a burst tyre, after which there were further shots until four men, one of whom was slightly wounded, emerged with their hands up. Durham police headquarters earlier wirelessed all northern police stations reporting that four hold-ups within an hour had been carried out by men driving a vehicle resembling an ambulance.
