THREE CENTURIES

AUSTRALIANS SCORE 579 RUNS AUCKLAND STARTS BADLY (P.A.) AUCKLAND, March 3. The cricket match between Australia and Auckland was continued at Eden Park on, Saturday, the visitors taking their overnight score of 368 for three wickets to 579. It was another day of interesting cricket.

Three centuries were scored during the innings. On the previous day Barnes compiled 107, while Miller was then one short of his mark. Miller went on to 139 before being bowled by Cowie. Hassett who on Friday had made 28, ran to 121 runs, and then was caught. Miller and Hassett added 158 runs for the fourth wicket, this being the best partnership of the innings. The later Australian batsmen slumped somewhat, the last five wickets falling for 85 runs. There were no fewer than three runouts on Saturday and one the previous day, making four in the innings. This reflects credit on the Auckland fieldsmen. The Auckland bowlers held to their task well. Auckland started badly, losing thenfirst wicket for nine runs. At stumps the home total was 51 for three. Rain caused the abandonment of play at 5.25 p.m. Conditions were ideal, although Auckland had to bat in a dull light. An appeal was made against the light in the over before the rain came, but it was dismissed. The attendance was 20,000 and the gate takings totalled £1740. Detailed scoresi —
