SECOND-YEAR CLASSES

DUNEDIN, December 21.

The Otago University Council has decided to admit 120 students to second-year classes at the Medical School from the 347 applications in nine groups. The groups and number of applications in each are as follow, the number accepted in each group being given in parenthesis: Students who have passed the intermediate examination and claim that their courses have been seriously interfered with by war service overseas and who would not otherwise have qualified for admission in. competition with other students, 16 (16; subject to verification of army service).

Students who have not passed the intermediate examination-who claim preference for war service overseas and who may yet complete the intermediate examination by passing at special examination in February, 1946, 11 (11 places reserved). . _. Students who have previously attended second-year classes, but have not passed annual terms examination, 23 (18). .. . Students who have completed subjects of the intermediate examination and who are also holders of university degrees, 25 (24). Students who have completed. the intermediate examination--and who hope to complete a university degree this year, 4 (4).
